The First National Bank of Arenzville celebrates the recent induction of Todd Burrus into the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Agri-Industry Hall of Fame. Mr. Burrus is currently the Chairman of the First National Bank of Arenzville Board of Directors. We share in honoring him as a true pillar of our community, whose dedication to both family and service exemplifies the values we share.
Todd’s journey as the president of Burrus Seed reflects not just a business family legacy, but a profound commitment to nurturing our local ag heritage—one that spans five generations. Working alongside his father, brother, and now his children, Todd has worked to build upon that legacy that continues to resonates deeply within our agricultural roots. He currently leads the Burrus agronomy/research team and describes himself as “chief encourager” for the next generations.
Todd won numerous awards as a member of 4-H and University of Illinois livestock judging teams. His knowledge of swine and love of supporting young people in agriculture continues as he provides show pigs for 4-H and FFA members. Todd believes that those who learn to care for animals will also better care for people.
Todd’s faith in Jesus anchors and animates his life. He taught a high school class Sunday mornings for many years and mentored countless young people through spiritual retreats. He maintains contact with many who worked their first summer job detasseling seed corn. He has often been told that the leadership training he gave detasseling supervisors – doing a job well and treating people fairly – has proven invaluable in their careers.
Todd lives in rural Arenzville with his wife Debbie. They have two grown children, Martha Krohe and Kevin Burrus who are both involved with the family business. He also enjoys spending time and attending the events of his two grandsons.
Congratulations, Todd, on this well-deserved recognition!
